THE CULPRIT…
The Illusion of Self-Care Overdrive ⚠️
Picture this - New month, new me, new routine, new sched. Time to wake up at 4am, clock in 1 hour of meditation, go on a 5km jog, do some weights, shower, yoga time, 10 min. of journal, curd my own cheese, make breakfast with said cheese, listen to a sound bath, get dressed, breathwork, go to work, get things done, take no breaks, come home, pass out by 9pm….. wake up exhausted, anxious, skipping steps 1 through 7 and falling off my new month new me energy. Welcome to the world of toxic self care. | ![]() must. get. well. |
Wellbeing, not welldoing
In our quest for self-improvement and wellness, it's all too easy to fall into the pursuit of perfection. We follow the alpha habit gurus, set unrealistic routines to follow and become obsessed with optimizing every aspect of our lives, only to find ourselves burnt out and disheartened when we inevitably fall short. But what if true self-care isn't about rigid routines or flawless execution; what if it's about something more nuanced and forgiving? Focusing on progress, building resilience, listening to our bodies, knowing our limits, and finding balance in the chaos.

THE SHIFT…
Wellness Without the Weight of Perfection 🏋🏿‍♀️
It's time to shift our approach to self-care and embrace a more holistic, sustainable way of living. Instead of chasing after the latest wellness trends or trying to mold ourselves into the perfect image of health, let's focus on building systems that support our overall wellbeing. This means prioritizing rest, relaxation, and genuine connection over the relentless pursuit of perfection. | ![]() pass me the chips |
The Beauty of Bounce-backs
Adopting a more flexible, forgiving approach to self-care has been linked to improved well-being and resilience. When we allow ourselves the space to be human—to make mistakes, to stumble, to recalibrate—we’re actually building a super human muscle of resilience and actually building better systems (versus outcomes). So that means when life gets in the way like when we have a sick week, take a vacation or are just tired of trying all the things, we can take the break because we’ve built the engine that will get us back on track when we’re ready - it’s the long-game baby!

THE TOOLS…
See What Sticks
1 // Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
Instead of focusing on the micro outcomes, set a broader goal to hold yourself accountable to. For example, want to get into daily meditation? Set up your ideal schedule and adapt. When you have extra time and energy on certain days, double your time. When you’re slammed and can’t make it, spend 5 seconds taking a deep breath. The system of taking time out of your day is being built in both scenarios, while giving yourself the grace to move with the flow of life.
2 // Weekend Breakers
If you’re on a new mission like a diet or a daily task or habit of any sorts, start by taking intentional weekend breaks, often referred to as “Cheat days”, where no rules apply. This allows some break from the perfectionist wheel while ALSO building resilience - for every Monday you get back on the horse to repeat, that’s a vote for a long-term system being built.
3 // Accountability Buddy
This comes without saying, just join TRYBE, duh. But actually, having a support structure around you can be helpful in not only keeping you accountable but also helping you give yourself grace - it’s amazing how a pair of outsider eyes helps us in checking ourselves.
