Multi-Tasking is a Sham 🤥
Monotask your way to getting more done in less time (Ep. 1)

THE CULPRIT…
Excessive Multi-Tasking
Picture this - emailing your boss, while watching The Office, whilst replying to a text, at the same time as your mud mask sets on your face » Fast forward - turns out you forwarded your boss that 🔥 gif (captioned: TWSS), sent your friends the Q4 Sales Report and spent the next 10 min. de-icing your face from dried up mud. | ![]() Where did all these hands come from?! |
The Multi-Tasking Brain is A Burnt Out Brain
Our brains crave stimulation and accomplishment so the allure of doing multiple things at once seems appealing … BUT (there’s always a but), research shows our brains aren’t wired for this. Our brain is actually just bouncing back and forth between tasks really quickly…like suicide sprints but for your brain 🥴, no thanks!

THE SHIFT…
Mono-Tasking
The human brain functions best in blocks of uninterrupted concentration so it’s time to put systems in place to manage your attention. Dedicate certain times for certain tasks, create environments that inspire concentration (ie. not in front of the TV), and silence the noise (buh bye Instagram). By task switching after periods of focus versus seconds of focus, we’re able to get more done in less hours. | ![]() Ah, it’s nice to have two hands again. |
The Focused Brain is an Efficient Brain
Because making your brain work smart, not hard is THE ultimate holy grail of productivity. Not to mention the hit of dopamine that you’re going to feel when you get something off your to-do list.

THE TOOLS…
See What Sticks
1 // Time Blocking
Put blocks on your calendar for your tasks (e.g. answering emails, work on job, work on side hustle, research time, look through cat memes). No need to get obsessive about it but helping put these boundaries in place can be a small psychology push to shift you into focus.
2 // Productivity Sessions
Designate specific hours as hyper-productive sessions. During these periods, commit to deep, uninterrupted work. Think of it as a power hour for each task, allowing you to achieve more in less time. I love using Flow State, a Pomodoro style podcast, to help keep me focused but also entertained.
3 // Shut Down The Noise
Turn off unnecessary notifications during focus work period. That means go on airplane mode, close all your tabs, bury your phone in a box of cereal if you have to. The less distracting the environment, the more you’ll get done and the sooner you can go back to crushing candy.
