THE CULPRIT…
Thirsty Bodies* = Thirsty Minds 🥵

*apologies in advance to all the fasting homies out there - I think this topic was subconsciously on my mind and it had to be expressed 😅

Picture this - It's mid afternoon on a glorious working day, only a few hours of work left, it’s the final stretch then - BAM - the mid day tire hits you, the dull headache sets in, focus is out the window and irritation is through the roof. Maybe we’re hangry so we grab a bite, maybe we need a boost so we grab a coffee, maybe we need to yell so we go to the loo and cry in the bathroom stall.

Nothing works and we’re stuck with the dreaded 3pm slump. Little do we know, our body IS actually crying - crying out for hydration (🥁). Water was the remedy we so dearly craved all along.

…OG thirst trap

The Importance of H2-Oh!
With our bodies being made of more than 60% water it’s no reason it needs to be refilled often. Dehydration is sneaky and it can impact EVERYTHING - our cognitive function, mood, physical performance AND our prized possession that an entire billion dollar industry has ballooned into existence to solve - our skin. Studies have found that dehydration as little as 1-2% of body weight can lead to decreased focus, memory impairment, and increased feelings of anxiety and fatigue (and sad skin).

THE SHIFT…
Sip, Sip, Horray!🥤

This feels futile because we ALL know we need to drink more water but for real this time, it's time to prioritize hydration as a cornerstone of your daily routine (FOR REAL). Instead of waiting until you're parched, make a conscious effort to drink water throughout the day - bathroom breaks may go up, but so will your energy levels, brain functions, focus, performance and your skin (the skin is truly a gift people). Feels like a pretty decent trade off.

H2 WHOA

Glow like JLo
If water was an employee its tasks may look like this - Nutrient transportation, temperature regulation, joint lubrication, digestion wellness, waste removal, cell function, cognitive function, skin health, exercise performance, productivity, looking FIERCE and more - that is a heavyweight R&R list, someone give this guy a raise already.

THE TOOLS…
See What Sticks

1 // Big Bubba Bottles
Getting yourself a BIG reusable water bottle (←not a Stanley) is the simplest life hack for a few reasons. Firstly, the visual queue of a water bottle is powerful - see it, drink it. Secondly, they let you easily track and see your water intake progress so you can more easily motivate yourself. Thirdly, they’re great for the environment, which actually helps us preserve our waters (not hydrated related but SO important).

2 // Infuse Your Water
If plain water isn't your thang, there’s a ton of ways to spice it up to make it seem more of an appealing drink choice. Fruit it, electrolyte it, herb it, bop it, chug it. Just make sure to use flavours or powders that don’t come with added sugars or calories (which take you back to dehydration mode).

3 // H20 Power Hour Games
This sounds silly but I did this with a colleague and it was hilariously effective. Challenge a coworker to join you and set off a small reminder every hour during the workday to finish your glass of water. The clock hits 1pm, turn to your partner, cheers those glasses and chug away. Increases hydration, laughs and bathroom gossip sessions two fold!
