How to Floss Like a Boss 🦷

Not the dance move, the dental practice (Ep. 13)

THE CULPRIT…
Floss Fear

Picture this - you have a dentist appointment coming up, you brush twice a day, mouthwash on the REG, use fancy toothpaste, Crest Whitestrip yourself annually. You’re going to make your Dental hygienist proud. Fast forward to appointment time, the hack job begins in your mouth, water a-splattering, gums-a-bleeding, teeth a-shining. Your hygienist gives you a new toothbrush for a job well done, then drops the bomb we all knew was coming - WHY AREN’T YOU FLOSSING FOOL?

Guilty 😔

floss?! OFC I floss.

The Silent Saboteur of Dental Health
Skipping flossing isn't just about leaving bits of food between your teeth (though that's definitely a concern you should care about). It's also about allowing plaque and bacteria to accumulate in those hard-to-reach places where your toothbrush can't reach. Over time, this buildup can lead to gum disease, cavities, and even tooth loss. Not to mention the dreaded bad breath that can accompany poor oral hygiene habits and lead to a lifetime of horrible dates.

THE SHIFT…
Floss Like a Boss 🦷

Ugh, I hate to admit it because I hate flossing (anyone with a built in retainer has it extra hard, amright?!). But it really is an investment in our long-term oral health and overall well-being. By taking just a few minutes each day to floss, we can significantly reduce our risk of dental problems and enjoy a brighter, healthier smile, while also saving some bucks (I’m looking at you fellow cavity captains).

ohhh floss.

The Fun Side of Flossing
…there is no fun side, except a pearly white smile (and all those health benefits I suppoooose).

THE TOOLS…
See What Sticks

1 // Water Pick
One way to make a habit stick is to just make it easier. Investing in a water pick is kinda a cheat code to flossing. No need for strings, trying to jam your hands in the back of your mouth, using special tools to get around your mouth wires. Just let the water pick do it’s thing and powerwash those chompers.

2 // In Sight, In Mouth
This is the opposite of outta sight, outta mind. If you keep your floss visible you’re more likely to pick it up and complete the task. Try keeping it beside your toothbrush, in front of your coffee maker (NO one gets in the way of coffee, better pick it up and floss), attached to your phone (has no one thought of this yet!?!).

3 // Smokers Flossers Break
Move over smokers break, there’s a new guy in town; flossers break. Everyone could use an excuse to pick up and stroll to the bathroom mid-work day so use it as a floss break. Set it for around the same time daily, grab your floss and enjoy it as the excuse to get your butt up and walking around for a little break.
